Workers are getting ready to launch Canandaigua's wireless Internet
system on a rooftop in the center of town.
Businesses like
the Pickering Pub are ready to offer their customers a chance to sit
outside and use their laptops.
However, Pickering Pub owner
Chris Greenlee said, "They haven't given me any information to give
out."
Greenlee and many of his customers wonder, "Where
will it work?"
The signal will start in Commons Park in the
center of town and will go for about a quarter mile in all
directions.
That means some of the most popular areas
to hang out won't get the signal including the city pier and a
popular waterfront park.

However, that range could be
expanded. Canandaigua city planners said they might add more
antennae around town, increasing the signal. But for now,
they're confining wireless Internet to Main Street.
City Manager Stephen Cole said, "There's been some interest
from people in the community to expand it already, and so we'll be
evaluating that probably later this winter."
